Sarasota Boat ParadeThe 28th Annual Sarasota Christmas Boat Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday December 14, 2013 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The best areas for viewing are Marina Jack Restaurant, Bayfront Park, City Island and Centennial Park.

The Parade route has been expanded by an additional turn marker at the southwest side of Bayfront Park. All boats must now pass approximately one third of the Sarasota Bay side of Bayfront Park within a few yards, to be considered for judging. The Bayfront Park spectator viewing area has been expanded to include the entire Northern tip of island near the fountain.. College Football is Back

College Game Day

College Game DayWhen the calendar changes from July to August I always feel that twinge of excitement because I know college football is just around the corner. Saturdays are started off with ESPN College Game Day followed by the constant stream of announcers calling plays, fans questioning the calls, screaming and cheering for teams, and a general good time is had by all.

Since Sarasota is not home to a major university that has a football team, local fans who want to be with their fellow alumni head out to local establishments to gather in their favorite colors and cheer for their “Boys of Fall”.

Check out the information and links below to see where your favorite team can be seen around town.

Friday Fest at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

By | August 26, 2013

Friday Fest ViewOne of the great free events that is held during the summer months is “Friday Fest” at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. September 20th will be the last show for the season. This is an outdoor concert that takes place on the lawn on the south side of the building right on Sarasota Bay. To me there is nothing better than some great music, good food and watching the sun go down over the water.

onenightrodeoThe band featured in September is “One Night Rodeo”. An American contemporary country band founded in Bradenton, FL, ONR is composed of Cory Hildreth (lead vocals, keys, guitar, and mandolin) and Duane Allison (bass guitar, vocals). Thirteen years and over 2,000 performances in their career has prepared ONR for their own launch into Country music stardom. Opening for superstars such as Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Montgomery Gentry is nothing new to this group of seasoned musicians who worked long and hard to get here.

One Night Rodeo most recently won the Great American Country and Music Nation’s Next GAC Star competition. The band released their first single and video, ‘Alive and Living’, which has maintained its spot in the Top 20 Country Countdown on GAC TV, and currently remains on the Independent Music Network charts.

Food and drink vendors with a great variety to choose from line the lawn so all you need is a chair or blanket to enjoy the evening. The event starts at 5pm but arrive early if you want a primo spot for the concert. Hope to see you there!
