Sarasota Open Tennis 2017The Sarasota Open Tennis Championships are coming next month on April 15-23rd. The venue has moved from the Lakewood Ranch Athletic Center to the United Tennis Club located at 4511 Bay Club Drive in Bradenton. This is the 10th year of the tournament which attracts some of the top players on the tour as well as some up-and-comers.

I have been to this tournament in several venues over the years and it’s always a great time. You have the opportunity to get up close to the players, coaches and fellow tennis fans. The weather is always great this time of the year so get out and enjoy a day at the Sarasota Open!

Sarasota County Fair 2017The 81st annual Sarasota County Fair is coming up next month at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. It starts on Friday March 17th and continues through Sunday March 26th. In addition to agricultural exhibits and animals, there will be great entertainment on two stages, arts and crafts, comedy shows, music and spectacular rides by Belle City Amusements. This years fair will have something for everyone to enjoy! Check out all the details and schedule below:

“Moon Over the Brewery” at The Island Players on Anna Maria Island

moon-over-the-breweryThe Island Players Theater on Anna Maria Island is in the midst of their 68th season and will be presenting “Moon Over The Brewery” opening on January 12th and running through the 29th. The play was written by Bruce Graham and directed by Kelly Wynn Woodland. It’s a story about Miriam, a full-time waitress and part-time painter who would enjoy male companionship, but her precocious teenage daughter, and Randolph, her imaginary friend, have managed to drive away all suitors. Can Warren, the new mailman, succeed where others have failed?  

This is an intimate theater experience as there are 143 total seats and not a bad seat in the house! Plan to visit for a memorable evening of outstanding entertainment.

Regular Show Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. The Box Office is open 10 days before opening night,
Monday through Saturday, 9AM-1PM for information and ticket sales and 1 hour before all performances for “Will Call” only.  All tickets will be held in “Will Call” at the box office for pickup. Tickets are $20.

Sarasota Polo Season 2017

sarasota-poloThe 2017 Sarasota Polo season begins Sunday, December 30th. Below are dates for public matches, which are held every Sunday through April 9th. Gates open at 10 a.m. and matches begin at 1 p.m.

New this season, the club will host matches on the last Friday of the month at 3 p.m. Gates for these games open at 2 p.m.

7th Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic International Sand Sculpting Festival

Held each November when our weather is picture perfect, the sand sculpting festival draws artists from all over the world to compete for the grand prize. Recently named America’s #1 Beach, the Siesta Key Crystal Classic has become a favorite of the professional sand sculptors who have competed here.

The event begins on Friday November 11th and continues through Tuesday the 15th. Hours are 10am to 5pm each day. The sand sculptures will be visible along the beach, but for close up viewing of artists at work tickets can be purchased for $10 per adult, $8 for seniors and military and $5 for children (Ages 5-17). The proceeds go to benefit the Mote Marine Laboratory Sea Turtle Conservation and Research program. siesta-key-sand-sculpture

Friday through Sunday there will be live entertainment. Food, drink and other vendors will be onsite and there are special activities for kids.

Pumpkin Festival

The Pumpkin Festival at Fruitville Grove has long been a favorite and it’s now in it’s 28th year! It starts this year on Saturday, October 1st and runs every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) through the 30th. There are many fun activities including:
