holidays-around-the-ranchIt’s time for the annual “Holidays Around the Ranch” for all to enjoy. This year the event is scheduled for Friday December 9th on Lakewood Main Street from 6-9pm. Children and adults alike will stand in awe at the sight of Santa Clause as he makes his grand entry in his beautiful white, horse drawn carriage, decorated in white lights and garland. Join the Dickens Carolers as they sing carols around the fountain leading up to the lighting of the spectacular tree. Florida children can experience outdoor skating on the acrylic rink. East County Observer will be offering sugar cookie decorating, and the popular choo choo express will once again whirl children around the big lit tree. In the bustle of it all be sure to have the children stop at the Community Activities table to make an ornament. Sip on hot cocoa, and egg nog from our many street vendors while enjoying the annual line up of stage performances by many local dance and music studios.

A Culinary Dining Experience at Puccini’s

By | November 10, 2016

puccinis

puccinisI had the good fortune of eating at Puccini’s last week (2881 Clark Rd., Sarasota) and gave it 5 STARS! Puccini’s Chef Richard does his magic and cooks in the rear half of the restaurant for those in the back half to see. All the food looked delicious and ours was truly top-notch.

puccinis-chefA few pointers:

1. Call for a reservation. There are only about 16 tables.

2. If you want to really be in the action, ask for the 5-top chef table right next to chef.

3. It is completely BYOB and there didn’t seem to be any rules other than you must open your own wine (the law).

4. Cash only…no credit cards. Puccini’s is perfect for anniversaries, birthday’s, special date night, or to impress clients. VERY good and a must visit!puccinis-storefront

Visit Arcadia

By | November 1, 2016

arcadia

arcadiaA short drive east of Sarasota lies the quaint city of Arcadia. It is the county seat for DeSoto County.  Arcadia is famous throughout Florida for its historic downtown antique district. Additionally, on the fourth Saturday of each month, vendors from surrounding locations take over our streets with even more wares and precious finds. My husband and I decided to check out the town during one of these antique fairs recently. The town was buzzing with people strolling the streets, checking out the shops and the open air market at the end of the main block.

arcadia-antique-fairTucked between the shops, there are cafés, home cooking, a tea room and even an old fashioned ice cream parlor, complete with homemade delicious flavors, sundaes and shakes. We had lunch at Mary Margaret’s Tea and Biscuit on Polk Avenue. This was a great spot as the building and décor take you back to another time. They serve the typical tea room fair of hot tea, scones etc. but also have a generous menu with lots of choices. The food was delicious and the service was prompt and friendly. Click here to have a look at the menu.

arcadia-rodeoIn addition to the Antique Fair the town is also known for the Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo is held in March, the Annual Watermelon Festival in May at the height of the harvesting season, and car shows, parades, and special events take place throughout the year.

If you are in the mood for a taste of old Florida I highly recommend a trip to Arcadia. The next Antique Fair will be held on Saturday, November 26th from 8am to 3pm.

For more information on the Antique Fair click here.
