Cannon’s Steakhouse and Tavern

Cannon's Steakhouse

Cannon's SteakhouseA perfect cross between high-end cuisine and a local tavern! There is no shortage of wonderful eateries in Sarasota, but we just stumbled on this truly local gem the other day and have found our new favorite steakhouse.

Cannon’s is located in the wonderful area of Gulf Gate. This special place has a wonderful ambiance that is both inviting and charming. Patrons were dressed both causally and in date-night wear. The food was simply outstanding. I had the most wonderful prime rib dinner with a baked potato and salad. The steak was absolutely delicious and so tender, it almost melted in my mouth. Treat to yourself to a wonderful evening!

The Beach House Restaurant

By | January 26, 2017

Beach House

Beach HouseEd Chiles, owner of the Chiles Restaurant Group, remodeled the interior of the Beach House last year and we visited over the weekend. The new décor is now a more upscale beach atmosphere with a large central bar facing the Gulf of Mexico. Even the menu is not your typical beachfront fare.

The BeachHouse Interior

There is a good variety with many dishes that have locally sourced ingredients which is their focus these days. We snacked on the smoked fish dip which was quite good and then ordered seafood dinners; mine was grouper tornedoes topped with spinach, sundried tomatoes and a lemon caper sauce over risotto. My husband ordered a mixed seafood plate with scallops, shrimp and grouper. Both were excellent.

Beach House Deck

The outdoor deck of the restaurant is currently under construction but they still have plenty of outdoor tables for dining. If you haven’t ever been to the Beach House or haven’t been lately, I recommend you check it out as the food is delicious and the view can’t be beat…that is unless you visit one of the sister restaurants; the Sand Bar on Anna Maria Island or Mar Vista on Longboat Key. All three get five stars in my book!

Sarasota Real Estate Update

By | January 24, 2017

Real Estate

Real EstateThe Sarasota Manatee Association of Realtors reports that condo sales increased in December as compared to the previous year, with Sarasota at a 12.5% increase and Manatee at a 7.8% increase. Single family home sales decreased in Sarasota County by 6.1% and Manatee by an 8.2% decrease.

December also showed a significant increase in inventory in the two-county area, with condo inventory increasing by 30 percent over last December and single family increasing by 18 percent.

While many markets have been reporting a decrease in cash sales, that is another area of strength for the two-county condo market. This December, 63.1 percent of all condo sales were cash sales, compared to 66.1 percent last December. Cash sales of single family homes were 34.1 percent of all single family sales in December, compared to 40.9 percent last December.

Median prices for single family homes are up in both counties, with Sarasota County up by 10.3 percent to $264,500 and Manatee County up by 7.5 percent to $285,000 from last December. Median condo prices are down slightly in Sarasota by 1.1 percent to $217,000, while Manatee County experienced a 3.8 percent increase to $185,000.

The months’ supply of inventory continues to rise toward a balanced market, favoring neither a seller or a buyer. Sarasota condos hit the balanced threshold of a 5.5-month supply, while single family homes are at a 4.5-month supply. Manatee County condos are at a 4.4-month supply and single family at a 4.1-month supply of condos.

Dockside Waterfront Grill in Venice

By | December 28, 2016

dockside-waterfront-grillLooking for a great casual waterfront restaurant? The owners of the popular Gecko’s restaurants purchased the Marker 4 restaurant in the Fisherman’s Wharf Marina recently. The decor has been updated but they retained the large tiki hut for that tropical feel. It is situated in the center of the marina so a great spot for boat and people watching.

Many of our favorite dishes from Gecko’s are on the new menu along with many more with an emphasis on fresh seafood. They have a full bar and daily drink specials. They are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

If you’re looking for a fun spot on the water check them out…you’ll be glad you did!

To get directions and/or view the menu visit their website.
