Sarasota got some national attention from USA Today along with Baltimore, San Francisco, New York, Charleston, San Diego and Savannah. The topic… “Great waterfronts to visit across North America.”

The city was listed among 10 waterfront destinations that also included Vancouver, British Columbia; Fort Lauderdale and Miami. “Sarasota might not garner as much attention as Miami or Orlando, but this culture-rich city enjoys close proximity to 40 miles of white-sand beaches lining the barrier islands just off shore,” the newspaper reported.

“In the city proper, Bayfront Park and Marina is a popular place for biking, walking, kayaking or canoeing with views of Sarasota Bay and the city’s skyline,” USA Today said.

Sarasota’s recognition comes just a week after downtown Bradenton was named one of the South’s top 10 central business districts. Southern Business & Development magazine, which focuses on business site selection, picked small towns with the most vibrant downtown areas. It praised Bradenton as “a bustling area with an eclectic mix of arts, culture and heritage.” The magazine made special note of Bradenton’s new Riverwalk and of the adjacent new Manatee Performing Arts Center. “The small-town city … welcomes its guests with the charm of a laid-back coastal town,” the magazine wrote.
