Back in the 1980’s, when I had time to frequent Siesta Key Beach on a regular basis, there was a parking problem. Over time and national recognition as one of the best beaches around, the parking problem has grown exponentially. Add in a holiday and forget parking easily. Even with Sarasota County’s stab at improving parking space and use, there are still difficulties finding a space to park. We had a “Siesta shuFFle” back in the day. Coordinating with friends or family to arrive and leave at the same time so there was a guaranteed space. Trying to do that without the use of cell phones made for one tricky dance!
Now there is a solution. Siesta Shuttle has begun transporting beach goers from the Westfield Southgate Mall located at 3501 S. Tamiami Trail (also US 41) in Sarasota. Just between Bee Ridge Road and Siesta Drive.
Siesta Shuttle’s website says, “For only $5 per person, riders can take the shuttles to and from the beach, village and mall all day and children under 12 ride free (2 children max per 1 adult, each child after is $5). Shuttle service will be available every 30 minutes. Your wrist band will also get you discounts and freebies at select local restaurants and establishments. Shuttles will run Monday-Friday 11am-7pm and Saturday-Sunday 9am-7pm.” They also say they have extra storage for coolers, beach chairs and other necessities. How can it be any better?
