Nicki Conway Sells Historic Thoms Estate.
SARASOTA, FL August 26, 2010 – Thanks to RE/MAX Alliance Group sales specialist Nicki Conway, one of Sarasota’s most unique and historic estates has been sold. After more than 24 months on the market, Conway successfully assisted Edward and Jo Ann Zobitz with the purchase of the Ella and Burton Thoms estate for $1,045,000.
The Thoms estate is definitely not a turnkey luxury home or a ready-made mansion; steeped in times past, the dwelling was selected by the US Department of Interior to be listed in Section 7 of the National Register of Historic Places. Situated on three lots in the heart of the Sapphire Shores subdivision, firmly ensconced behind magnificent wrought iron gates, the dwelling boasts an unparalleled level of sophistication and elegance.
A spectacular product of the historic Florida Land Boom of 1925, in the manner of Spanish Colonial Revival homes, the asymmetrical one and two story design boasts volume ceilings, soft quatrefoil designs, stained glass, extensive marble, pecky cypress and an exceptional pergola entrance. The former servants’ quarters have been transformed into a stunning guest home. The master suite is exquisite, replete with a wood burning fireplace, dressing area and spacious walk-in closets. At more than 4,500 square feet, the five bedroom three and one half bath home is designed for entertaining with both formal and eat-in dining, separate bonus and family rooms and a formal living room.
“The outside courtyard of the Thoms mansion is stunning,” Conway said, “and the dining and living areas are so elegant. History really comes alive when you are standing in the house – you can mentally picture Bertha Palmer sipping champagne at one of the legendary cocktail parties that were held there.”
Conway said that her buyers immediately understood the “integrity of the elegance,” of the estate. “My buyers were so much fun.” Conway said, “I knew that this house would be perfect for them because they have very eclectic taste. We only looked at properties that were different.”
A Realtor since 2003, Conway has worked with her broker at Re/Max Alliance Group for seven years; she credits the RE/MAX business model with “allowing me to be an entrepreneur and be my own boss. I can brand and market myself and I have the power of Re/Max behind me. These are very professional people,” she said.
While Conway’s favorite part of her job is interacting with people and “finding that special home,” she said that the most difficult, yet crucial part of her job is the research and years of dedication to educating herself regarding Sarasota and the surrounding community. Her expertise in Sarasota and the contiguous area was essential in selling the Thoms estate. “Listings and sales, you have to be well rounded. If you only work with sellers, you won’t understand what is available and the price points,” she said.
The Thoms manse was originally listed in August, 2008 for almost two and one half million dollars. Conway’s buyers currently reside in South Orange, NJ; they purchased the historic mansion in contemplation of retirement.
